Plot
The episode begins as Molly tries to say, "It's time for Bubble Guppies!" However, she notices Gil nearby and swims over to see him playing with a fish that spits out colored bubbles. Eventually, after Gil requests an orange bubble, it explodes on him! Then Molly says, "Orange you glad it's time for Bubble Guppies!" Molly and Deema are on the way to school when they go to investigate a noise they just heard. They see a blue race car just reaching the finish line, and a red car is called up. Just beforehand, the girls meet the red racer and chat then they saw all kinds of different colored cars. Molly and Deema both tell the audience their favorite colors, blue and red.
Shortly after, the two girls continue going to school while pretending to drive cars. Upon arrival to class, Molly and Deema tell the others about the race cars, and soon everyone shares their favorite color with the audience. Mr. Grouper also points out that you can mix most colors to make a new one by taking the three primary colors: red, blue, and yellow, and then mixing them.
For example, yellow and blue make green, red and yellow make orange, and red and blue can make purple! Then the Guppies sing A Color Just Right.

Oona goes to get her helmet painted at Gil's Shop. She asks for pink. After he looks around however, she suspiciously questions this and can tell he doesn't have any pink paint on hand. But she tells him that they can just make some pink paint and asks for both some red paint, and white paint.
Oona then asks the audience if pink is lighter or darker than red. Then, after the Little Fish give the correct answer, she dumps some white paint into the red paint can and asks for a mixing stick, and begins to stir the two colors to make pink!
Placing both the paint and helmet into the device that paints objects, Gil turns it on, and within a few seconds, the helmet is a pretty, soft shade of pink! He then places it onto Oona's head as Mr. Grouper comes to ask them what time it is. "It's time for lunch!" they exclaim. Nonny got a sandwich and a box of apple juice, Goby got a quesadilla and a box of grape juice, and Deema got a pita wrap and a box of "crayon-berry" juice.
After lunch, Molly begins to explain that pink is a lighter shade of red as she paints the background that very same color. Gil, in his purple racing attire, pretends to be a racer. She keeps warning him to be careful because he's dangerously close to the paint can, which is on top of the ladder she's using. Eventually, he bumps into the ladder, causing the pink paint to spill all over him! "I mean pink. Pink Thunder…" he says sadly as he walks away, and Molly giggles.
"Purple Thunder!"
In class, Molly and Deema once again pretend to be driving cars and decide they want to have a race around the classroom. Mr. Grouper offers to be the traffic light, but he keeps mixing up the colors or getting the wrong one, which makes Molly and Deema laugh.
This leads them to discuss what some colors mean, such as red on an oven meaning hot, so don't touch, or that blue usually means cold when using water. Then Goby sings the song "What Do Colors Mean?".
Outside to play, Nonny and Deema pretend to be color technicians who work at a color plant world as Goby tells a story.
Once upon a time, there were two color technicians, Nonny and Deema, who worked at the International Department of Colors. They were in charge of all the colors in the world. One day, everything seemed fine until an alarm suddenly blared. Nonny discovered they had a leak in the orange color pipe! Shocked, Deema looked at her lunch and saw that her orange was losing its color. She rushed outside and used a wrench to fix the leak, and just like that, her orange got its color back.
Just then, a large, hungry creature called The Color Monster rose from the water. Deema hid in fright and watched as the monster grabbed the blue pipe and started drinking from it. He claimed it was his favorite color, causing the sky and water to lose their color. The monster burped and walked away. So Deema then outside and plugged the blue pipe into the blue plug, and the sky and water regained their vibrant hues.
Just then, the Color Monster returned for more colors and grabbed the red pipe, claiming red was his favorite. Deema was confused; she thought blue was his favorite. The monster explained that red was his favorite color too, and he liked all the other colors as well. He grabbed all the pipes and drank from them, causing all the colors in the world to fade away. Then monster burped and walked away.
The technicians went to plug the pipes back in to restore the colors. On the last plug, Deema tried to plug the green pipe into the blue plug, but it didn't fit. Luckily, she saw a diamond at the bottom of the green pipe. With the viewer's help, they managed to find the right plug, and the world was colorful again.
Before long, the Color Monster came back yet again for more colors, and Deema finally had enough. "Hey, Color Monster!" she shouted, "Leave those pipes alone! You're drinking up all the color in the world!" The monster sadly explained that those were his favorite colors. Deema asked which ones, and the monster responded, "Every color of the rainbow." This gave Deema a brilliant idea, and she urged Nonny to activate the Emergency Rainbow Generator.
Colour Monster
Nonny flipped the switch, and a huge, beautiful rainbow appeared. The monster headed to an island where the rainbow ended so he could drink as much color as he wanted. Deema assured him that the rainbow would keep him happy. In conclusion, the monster was happy and never bothered the color pipes or the technicians again, and everyone lived happily ever after.
After the the story, Gil is holding a race for a group of multicolored little fish and he tells them to start their engines, and then he tells them to go! But they do not move... Molly asks the audience about this, and they inform Gil that the light is still red! So Gil get's in front of it and he begins to play with the light until it suddenly changes!
This causes many small fish to nearly run him over as they begin to race. Gil quickly swims away before they do, and Molly giggles. Just then, Deema approaches in her helmet and tells them it's time to go to an actual race: The Crayon Prix. Mr. Grouper takes the guppies to compete in the Grand Crayon Prix for a chance to win the ultimate prize: a big box of crayons! Marty Snailer explains that in order to win, each color racer must race through their challenge, which includes: The red tunnel, the orange bridge, the yellow jump, the green loop-de-loop, the blue corkscrew, and the purple hoop.
Each guppy is given a color as they approach the starting line. Mr. Grouper reminds them to fasten their seatbelts, which they do, and as they start their engines, they soon begin as the light turns green. Everyone manages to complete their stunt and get back into the pathway along with the others, but Gil goes too fast and accidentally crashes, missing his stunt and shocking everyone! Molly asks Gil if he's okay, and he replies, "Uh-huh, I'm okay."
Oona worried that they couldn't get all the colors, but luckily, Gil had an idea: they could make purple! Molly's car is blue, and with the viewer's help, they can use Deema's red car to mix their colors and form purple. They then complete the final stunt! This wins the Guppies the big box of crayons as the episode comes to an end.
Gil comments on how happy he was to see purple. Then goes on to say how awesome it is as the color blowing fish approaches him from behind and begins to blow a huge purple bubble! Molly tries to warn him and swims back to avoid the oncoming purple explosion but Gil tells her to cheer with him. She doesn't, however, and the purple bubble bursts! Splashing purple all over the screen, and Gil as the episode ends.
